Review Summary:

Getting a mobile phone is becoming more of a challenge with all the choices available. However, when I decided to upgrade my first thought was to look at an iPhone. This is primarily due to the fact that my previous phone was the iPhone 5 which had served me very well. When upgrading I decided to go with the iPhone 5C for a couple of reasons. The first reason was that it was the slightly cheaper option between the iPhone 5S and the 5c. Of course, once I had the phone I realised that I should have maybe spent the little extra to get the iPhone 5S. While the iPhone 5C isn’t a bad phone it wasn’t the step forward I was expecting. When a company releases a new product you assume that it is an improvement on the last. With the iPhone 5C I would have been better off keeping my iPhone 5.

If you are looking for a phone that can do everything that the one you already have can do then this the phone for you. The iPhone 5C is also ideal for people who are more concerned with having a vibrantly coloured phone than one that doe things the competition does not. If you want to stay with Apple then getting the 5S is a better option in relation to lifespan for the phone technology. Of course, you could always move to Android if you don’t want to pay the high costs for the iPhone 5S.

The iPhone 5C does have some good points. The ones that I was able to find include the fact that all the hardware is the same as the iPhone 5 which means I can do the same things. Of course, the use of iOS 7 does change the landscape slightly, but not too much. The amount of storage space that the phone comes with is fine at 32GB. However, if you want larger than that you need to look at the iPhone 5S. One of the major problems that I have with the iPhone 5C is the fact that it is made from polycarbonate. This is a type of plastic and not what you would expect from Apple. While Apple has tried to make the plastic seem better by having a single solid piece you can still feel that it is plastic and I am terrified that my phone will break from the slightest impact with anything.

Another problem with the phone is that many of the features being paraded about for the new iPhone releases are not on the 5C. The most important is the key feature of the 5S which is the fingerprint reader. This is a feature that I was excited about, but this is not found on the iPhone 5C which is a bit of a let down. Overall, I have to say that the iPhone 5C is not the world’s worst phone and maybe I should have done more research on the features before I got one. However, it is basically an iPhone 5 in plastic body which is paraded as the cheaper option when it is not really that much cheaper to buy. If you are looking for an actual upgrade from the iPhone 5 then you should not look at the 5C at all.
