Review Summary:

I'm afraid of the dentist. There, I said it. I'm embarrassed to admit it, but it's true. I really am terrified of getting in that chair. In fact, I'm so afraid of it that I avoided doing it for 10 years. Finally, 2 months ago I decided it was time to finally make an appointment. I wanted to try to do something about my teeth before I went to cut down on what I feared would be hours of scraping away tartar.

I have crowded teeth on the bottom, so it's very hard for me to use floss. I had heard about water flossers in the past and decided to give one a try. After reading reviews, I went for the Waterpik Aquarius Professional Water Flosser. It was more expensive than other models, but the description said that it was clinically shown to improve gum health in just 2 weeks. I wasn't sure if that was possible, but I ordered it anyway.

After using it for 2 months and seeing the dentist, I have to say that the Waterpik Aquarius Professional Water Flosser lives up to its promises. The water flosser does an exceptional job of removing plaque from along the gum line. The dental hygienist couldn't believe I hadn't been to the dentist in over a decade because there was very little scraping to do.

In terms of ease of use, I find this water flosser to be much simpler to use than floss. Its basic mode of operation is very simple. You fill it with water, turn on the power button and then push a button on the wand. Water shoots out of the head, and you can adjust how hard it flows by turning a dial. There is a timer built in that tells you when it's time to move from your top teeth to your bottom teeth and when you can finish, so you don't have to try and count the seconds while you floss.

Even though my gums were not in good shape, I had very little discomfort using the flosser, and now that they're much healthier, there is no discomfort at all. The cord is nice and long, giving you plenty of length to reach. A number of tips are included for performing different oral care tasks as well.

All in all, I would strongly recommend the Waterpik Aquarius Professional Water Flosser to anyone who wants a simple, yet effective alternative to dental floss, but there are a couple of small drawbacks to the unit aside from its expensive price tag. While there are some advanced features, like a gum massage mode, I found it hard to figure out how to use them without reading the entire manual from front to back. There is a small learning curve to figuring out how to use the device, and the button on the hand-held unit can be hard to operate. The biggest drawback is that the flosser is noisy. I have to make sure I use it before my husband goes to bed or else it will wake him up, even with the door to the bathroom closed.

Still, despite these small problems, the Waterpik Aquarius Professional Water Flosser is a good investment, especially if you're afraid of the dentist like me and want to keep the scraping when you're in the dental chair to an absolute minimum.
