Review Summary:
These earbuds are a great value. Good sound and range, comfortable enough to wear for long hours, provide a semi-custom seal in the ears, and won't break the bank. You may not like how they feel in your ears, but if you can get used to it, they're awesome for the price.
I figure once you drop under $100, it is impossible to find great earbuds. I play in a hybrid EDM/R&B/funk music band and we use in-ear monitors. I have some custom 1964s for those. They were like $400 after the custom molds and everything. But I can not just use those for knocking around.
What I need is something with:
- flat eq response
- good construction
- a decent seal in my ears
- not crazy expensive
For the price these JVC marshmallows are bomb. If I lose them, it’s not a huge loss. And I would probably buy them again.
I was looking at the range frequency response on all the consumer level earbuds and this was one of the widest ones. It goes lower and higher than people can hear, but you can still feel it in the lows and in the treble, you don’t lose that sizzle. But it doesn’t matter if all that sound spills out and doesn't reach your ear drum.
The marshmallow earbuds come with soft foam tips. Not that sponge foam that just bleeds sound. You squeeze these between your fingertips and put them in. They expand and create a tight seal. If you just jam them in, they probably won’t stay secure. If you’ve never use tips like this, they may feel weird at first. But just start listening to your music and you’ll get used to it.
Tight seal = better bass response. Period.
It does not matter if you got mega extreme bass if your earbuds bleeds. That extra bass response is dumb anyway. You want an even eq to start with so you can adjust it yourself.
These JVC earbuds come with three sets of soft foam tips so you can pick the size for your earholes. I must be a freak because I chose the middle size for my right ear and the large size for my left. Whatever.
The cord length is about 4 foot. Not super short and almost too long. I keep catching the cord on stuff. But I would rather it reaches from my ears to my pocket. I kinda have a long torso so I need the extra length.
They come in a bunch of different colors. I like basic black most times, but if you want you can pick up blue, black, orange, green. The whole rainbow, one for every day of the week.
If you are looking for a cheap pair of earbuds that don’t sound or feel cheap, you should get these. They sound great. I would buy these again if I lost them.
